In order to deal with the increased threat of terrorism, the Danish government is once again strengthening the controls at the border with Germany. This period of increased controls should last for 6 months.
In April 2023, the Danish government announced that it intends to carry out stricter border checks at its border with Germany. Most Western European countries are currently experiencing a large influx of migrants and asylum seekers. It is for this reason that the Danish government announced that it intends to extend enhanced border control for another six months. Stricter controls have also been introduced at Danish ports for ferries arriving from Germany.
It is important to mention that similar border control measures are also introduced in some other European countries. Germany, Poland, and Austria have recently increased checks on their border with Slovakia - Slovakia has taken the same measures on its border with Hungary. Poland and the Czech Republic plan to extend the period of tightened control until November 2nd, Austria - until November 11th, and Slovakia - until November 3rd. Germany has also strengthened border controls with Austria – these measures were supposed to last until November, but now this period is planned to be extended until May 11th, 2024.
