In January 2022 the Danish Transport Authority announced that for the upcoming 3 months it will not be penalizing drivers for violations of the EU Mobility package rules. This announcement was made because in the eyes of the Transport Authority the package rules lacked clarity, hence, fining drivers was hard. Up to now those who violated the rules would only receive a warning. But this is changing now – starting from May, Denmark will be penalizing all drivers for the violations of the rules.
From now on all haulier companies will have to register their drivers on the IMI system if they happen to be traveling to Denmark. The hauliers are also obligated to pay the minimum hourly wage to their drivers for the time period where they are posted in Denmark. As of now, the minimum hourly rate applied to drivers in Denmark is DKK 168.56 (€ 22.66).
Norway is also planning to join the list of countries that are applying the EU Mobility package rules in their territories. The Norwegian parliament will be considering a proposal to implement the EU Mobility package. This comes from the fact that the country is trying to ensure proper working conditions for local and foreign drivers. If the proposal is accepted then the Mobility package rules will have to be coordinated with the Norwegian road laws.
