Spain has relaxed drivers‘ working time rules

This week Spain has relaxed the rules regarding drivers‘ working hours. Starting from this week drivers are allowed to drive for up to 11 hours a day – previously the limit was set at 9 hours. Together with this change several other rules are getting implemented as well:

  • The maximum amount of driving hours allowed in a week is 60h – previously it was 56 hours.
  • The maximum amount of driving hours allowed in the period of two consecutive weeks has been changed from 90 to 102 hours.
  • The minimum amount of obligatory rest time in a day has been changed from 11 to 9 hours.

The new law is coming into force in an attempt to better drivers’ working conditions and help hauliers who are currently struggling with increased fuel prices. In the light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, some other states are implementing similar changes. This month Poland also relaxed drivers’ working hours, an article regarding this can be found here: https://bazace.ro/informatii-untile/polonia-relaxat-reglementarile-privind-timpul-de-lucru-al-soferilor
