Road bans in Europe in March 2024

With the start of the spring season, road bans for heavy weight vehicles will be changing in many countries. Simultaneously, many states are planning to implement additional restrictions given the upcoming Easter festivities. This article lists the dates on which road bans for trucks will apply in Europe.

March 1st, Friday

In Austria, road bans will apply from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the A10 motorway.

March 8th, Friday

In Austria, road bans will apply from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the A10 motorway.

March 14th, Thursday

Road bans in Hungary will apply from 10 p.m. until midnight.

March 15th, Friday

  • In Austria, road bans will apply from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the A10 motorway.

  • In Hungary, road bans will be in force from midnight to 10 p.m.

March 19th, Tuesday

Road bans in Liechtenstein will be in place throughout the entire day due to St Joseph’s Day.

March 22nd, Friday

In Austria, road bans will apply from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the A10 motorway.

March 28th, Thursday

In Hungary, road bans will be in place from 10 p.m. until midnight.

March 29th, Friday

Due to the Good Friday festivities, road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Croatia from 3 p.m.  to 11 p.m.

  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Slovenia and Italy from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Luxembourg from midnight to 9.45 p.m. for those travelling towards Germany.

  • In Germany, Hungary and Slovakia from midnight to 10 p.m.

  • In Switzerland throughout the entire day (except in the regions of Ticino and Valais).

  • In Austria from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the A10 motorway.

On Saturdays (March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th)

The following countries will have road bans in force on Saturdays in March:

  • In Austria on the A12 and A13 motorways from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other restrictions will apply from 3 p.m. to midnight.

  • In France from 10 p.m. to midnight. Separate bans will apply in the Rhône-Alpes region from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except for March 30th).

  • In Hungary from 10 p.m. to midnight. 

  • In Luxembourg from 9.30 p.m. to midnight for those travelling towards France and from 11.30 p.m. to midnight for those travelling towards Germany.

On March 30th, due to the Good Saturday festivities, additional bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Italy from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • In Croatia from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • In Poland from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Sundays (March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st)

Sundays road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Austria, Germany, France and Slovakia from midnight to 10 p.m.

  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Italy from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Luxembourg from midnight to 9.45 p.m. 

  • In Liechtenstein and Switzerland throughout the entire day.

  • In Slovenia from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • In Hungary from midnight to 10 p.m. (this does not apply to EURO 3 and higher categories of trucks operating in the international transport sector). 

On March 31st, the first day of Easter, additional road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In Croatia from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. 

  • In France and Hungary throughout the entire day.

  • In Luxembourg throughout the entire day for those travelling towards France and from midnight to 9.45 p.m. as well as from 11.30 p.m. to midnight for those travelling towards Germany. 

  • In Poland from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
