Road closures in Slovenia due to heavy floods and storms

A season of extremely heavy rains and storms in Slovenia has led to flooded streets and destroyed bridges. About 100 roads have been partially or completely closed in the past few days. Extreme weather conditions have affected two-thirds of the country’s territory. Three bridges have been destroyed in the territory of Ljubljana alone.

The following bridges have been destroyed in the Slovenian capital area:

  • The bridge on the G2-108 road in the Šentjakob-Ribče section.
  • The bridge on the R2-447 road in the Želodnik-Domžale section.
  • The bridge on the R1-225 road in the Kamnik-Stahovica section.

The city of Maribor and its surroundings were also strongly affected - a 2 km long section of the G2-112 road was completely destructed. Several important roads are now closed in Slovenia:

  • Maribor-Dravograd road,
  • Dravogrado-Sloven Gradec road between Otiški Vrh and Šentjanž,
  • Ravne-Dravograd road,
  • Dravograd-Libelich road,
  • Lubno-Solčava road,
  • The Celje-Laško-Šmarjeta road in the Laško region from the gas station onwards towards Šmarjeta.
  • Laško-Zidani Most-Radeče road,
  • Ljubljana-Litija-Zagorje-Hrastnik-Zidani Most road,
  • Žiri-Rovte road,
  • Dobrova-Polhov Gravec-Ljubljanica road from Kamnik towards Kamniška Bistrica and towards Gornji Grad,
  • Predvor-Jezersko road,
  • Begunje-Tržič road.

It is impossible for drivers to use the roads located between Mežica and Šoštanj and Črna na Koroškem. A list of all roads affected can be found by clicking here. These extreme weather conditions have claimed four lives in Slovenia so far. The property damage is estimated to stand at €500 million.
