COVID-19 certificates are now mandatory in German workplaces.

In Germany, as the number of people infected with COVID-19 is again increasing, new laws are being introduced in order to reduce the spread of the virus and the COVID Delta variant. From 24 November, all people working in the country will be required to carry a COVID-19 Green Pass. This law will also apply to truck drivers.

Under the new law, all workplaces must receive a COVID-19 certificate proving that a person has been vaccinated, or an official document proving that a person has undergone a PCR or antigen test and received a negative result. Rapid tests purchased in pharmacies and tests performed without official supervision are not considered suitable. Exceptions apply to rapid tests that can be performed at home, if the test has been supervised by a mandatory official (e.g. if the negative result of the test is confirmed by the employer within 24 hours).

From now on, COVID-19 certificates and test results will be checked at all workplaces. Violations of the law will be punished by extremely high fines, of up to EUR 25,000. This requirement will also apply to truck drivers. The COVID-19 certificates and tests will be inspected at all loading / unloading locations. This law shall remain in force until 19 March 2022.
