Due to roadwork on the A73 motorway, two tunnels – Roertunnel and the Swalmen Tunnel – are going to be closed in the Netherlands. These tunnels will be partially or completely closed during several different time periods between the beginning of August and the end of October. In this article, we provide a list of dates on which traffic is going to be limited in the two tunnels.
The A73 motorway connects the A2 motorway with the city of Venlo. It is estimated that around 50,000 vehicles use these two tunnels every day. The closures of the tunnels will happen on the following days:
- The tunnels located in the northern part of the motorway which connects Maastricht and Venlo are going to be closed from July 14th (Friday) 9 PM up until August 4th (Friday) 9 PM.
- From August 4th (Friday) 9 PM up until August 5th (Saturday) 9 AM both of the tunnels will be completely closed.
From July 14th until August 5th it is recommended to use these alternative routes:

- The tunnels located in the southern part of the motorway which connects Maastricht with Venlo will be closed from August 5th (Saturday) 9 AM up until August 25th (Friday) 9 PM.
From August 4th until 25th drivers are advised to use these alternative routes:

- From August 25th (Friday) 9 PM up until August 28th (Monday) 6 AM and from September 1st (Friday) 9 PM until September 4th (Monday) 6 AM both tunnels are going to be completely closed in both directions.
From August 25th until the 28th, from September 1st until the 4th, and from October 27th up until the 30th the following alternative routes are available:

The roadwork in the tunnels will continue throughout the month of October as well as in the Summer of 2024.
